About Us

The Riding High Equestrian Program is a non-profit organization designed to touch the lives of those young people and adults who seem untouchable by conventional therapeutic methods. Our mission is to serve 'at risk' youth and adults using equine assisted therapy in a safe and open environment that helps transform lives.

The Riding High Equestrian Program is an operating center of the North American Riding for the Handicapped

Association (NARHA), specifically Equine Facilitated Mental Health Association (EFMHA) and Equestrian Assisted Growth & Learning Association (EAGALA) Level-1 & Level-2 certified.

Children are given a halter and asked to pick a horse. The horse they choose will mirror their emotions and challenge their needs, bypassing defensiveness. Horses don't judge and neither do we. We create a healthy, healing environment.

Our Success

We are proud recippients of the Auburn Host Lions Club Higgins Diggins Award.

The Project title is: Leadership Teens and Seniors Youth from diverse backgrounds will take one of our animals to convalescent homes to have the elders enjoy the benefits of animal affection.

How You Can Help.

Monetary donations in any amount are appreciated and are tax-deductible. We also welcome donated professional services such as fundraising, grant writing, clerical, horse shoeing, veterinary services, and public relations. Donations of saddles and tack, feed, or even carrots are also very much appreciated. We would also greatly value donations to help support our Tim West Memorial Scholarship and Horse Fund.

Volunteers who want to help in any way are welcome. If you like people and horses this is a great opportunity to enjoy rewarding experiences with both. If you would like to volunteer please contact Honey Cowan, Director (See Contact Information Page).

Help us prevent children from becoming "at risk" by becoming involved. Contact our director, Honey Cowan, for information about how you can help support our prevention program.

Tim West Memorial Scholarship and Horse Fund:

Tim and his horse Mocha were dedicated and conscientious helpers who were wonderful mentors and friends for the youth in the program. Tim loved working with the horses and youth and gave up both of his days off to the program. We would like to keep him alive in our hearts and our program. Your donations to the "Tim West Memorial Scholarship and Horse Fund" can help us continue to have Tim helping the youth and the horses. Mocha was donated to the program by Tim's parents; many of our clients are grateful, as are we.eMocha was donated to the program by Tim.
